An event at a Miami shopping mall last week led to the apprehension of four teenagers, prompting a peculiar theory on social media. The incident involved a large police response, with over 60 police cars converging on the Bayside Marketplace in downtown Miami on Monday night. The disturbance arose from a brawl among teenagers at the open-air shopping mall, where they were also engaged in tossing fireworks at each other. This occurrence has since given rise to speculation on social media, suggesting an unusual theory about the potential presence of aliens at the Florida establishment.
Local WPLG-TV reported that four teenagers were taken into custody in connection with the incident. The suspects’ arrest reports, as detailed by the television station, indicated that the juveniles were arrested for “causing a riot inside the mall” and “causing panic.”
Numerous officers responded to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. local time after multiple 911 calls reported what was initially believed to be gunshots at the two-story mall located at 401 Biscayne Blvd. However, it turned out to be loud fireworks causing the commotion. Police vehicles lined the boulevard, leading to a temporary blockage of access between Second and Fourth streets.
The extensive police response to handle the incident has triggered suspicions among social media users, leading to speculation that the situation might have involved more than just teenagers.
Some individuals, upon reviewing footage of the scene outside the Miami mall on Monday, have formulated a theory suggesting that an alien “creature” was the actual cause of the disturbance.
A different post on platform X alleged that authorities were withholding information, stating, “the truth about why Miami had possibly the biggest police response I’ve ever seen in my life.” This post garnered 7.7 million views as of early Friday.
A different user on the platform reported, “I zoomed in on one of the TikTok videos about the Miami mall creature, so you can see the gray creature walking in between these police cars and the building,” while sharing a video of the Monday incident.
This user asserted that eyewitnesses mentioned the creature blending in with the crowd, despite its considerable height, and described it as gray-silver. However, the official Miami Police report of the incident makes no mention of any unidentified creature, contradicting the online claims.
The theory hasn’t gained unanimous support on social media, as some users pointed out their inability to observe any alleged alien creature. Others suggested that what appeared to be a suspicious creature in the low-quality footage could be “three officers walking side by side.”
Newsweek reached out to the Miami Police Department for comment via email on Friday.
According to the Miami police, two of the male teenagers, both aged 15, are facing charges of burglary, third-degree grand theft, battery, and resisting an officer without violence. The other two arrested teens, aged 14 and 16, have been charged with resisting an officer without violence.
The teens’ arrest reports indicated that while police were escorting 50 juveniles out of the Miami mall, they observed another group of 15 juveniles assaulting a driver. The police ordered them to stop, but the teens fled and were later apprehended by the police at a parking garage.
